We got up and went by the campground hosts’ site to visit a little and found that the person he said was coming in another Oliver trailer was none other than Pete Marks and his dog Oscar. We knew Pete from Casita rallies we had attended. Carolyn fed Larry and Betty’s pet ground squirrel out of her hand. Larry told us of a nice back road drive. We started at Horca, Colorado and drove over rough dirt roads through the Canejos Valley to the town of Platoro, then over the Stunner Pass to the mining ghost town of Summitville which is now a superfund cleanup site. At one point a herd of cattle and a cowboy on a horse were taking up the road. The cowboy had to escort us through the herd. We drove on to Del Norte where we got on pavement again. We drove through Alamosa and Antonita, then back to camp – 203 miles. We got back to camp at 9:30 PM.
