July 10

We drove to Mount Rushmore National Park and walked around the base of the base of the mountain observing the carved presidents’ faces from different angles. Then we drove by Crazy Horse Monument on the way to Jewel Cave National Monument. By the time we got there at 2PM they were selling tickets for the 6:20 tour. We decided to put off seeing it until another day. On the way back to Sturgis we drove through Deadwood. We saw Wild Bill Hickock’s and Calamity Jane’s graves and also the saloon where Wild Bill was assassinated. We walked around Deadwood’s old main street and went into Diamond Lil’s Saloon for a beer. When we went in we found out that the bar is owned by Kevin Costner, and there were all sorts of memorabilia (posters and costumes) of his movies hanging on the wall. The place also had a casino and a restaurant.
